With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Charles G. Charles was kept busy between his regular job and farming his land in Eldon. Charles Howard Schwartz died peacefully at home with his family present at the age 69 after a long battle with lymphoma cancer. They have two children, Kevin Schneider, born in April of 1968 and Terra Marie Schwartz, born in January of 1978. Walburg and runs a hairdressing shop in Lloydminster. He married Sylvia Schneider in June of 1977. He spent his time at his Dad’s home and farmed his quarter of land. He worked in Lloydminster during the week and boarded out and on his days off. He purchased the SE 7-50-22 W3 from the Canadian Pacific Railroad in 1968 and kept a few cattle at his dad’s place. ![]() He then secured a full time job with Grief Containers Ltd in Lloydminster. He picked roots for neighbors and saved his money to buy his first car.Ĭharles’ first job away from home was at Nelson Lumber Company in Lloydminster where he and a neighbor, worked for three summers. Charles picked stones for the Municipality in the summer to earn enough money to buy a bicycle and cut wood for neighbors in the winter to make some spending money. The house was heated by a wood and coal stove, which the cooking was done on. Charles recalls as a young boy they did not have electricity or indoor plumbing. When the Eldon school closed, Charles took Grades 6, 7 and 8 in Maidstone travelling by school bus. In the summer the children walked to school. He and his sisters were taken to school in the winter by their father, travelling in a closed-in cutter with a little stove in it, pulled by a team of horses. ![]() ![]() Charles grew up on a farm in the Eldon district and attended the Eldon School for grades 1 to 5.
